It would seem that being 6 years old is no longer the dreary humdrum and terribly boring affair that it was a couple of decades ago. Especially not if your name is Blue Ivy and your folks are Jay-Z and Beyoncé. Blue Ivy recently became the talk of the Internet once more when she attended the second annual Wearable Art Gala with her two famous parents. Her equally famous grandmother, Tina Knowles Lawson, and her own mother hosted the Wearable Art Gala, and Beyoncé was being honoured at the event for her humanitarian work and contributions to bettering the lives of those in need.
Putting Her Paddle Forward
Blue Ivy not only attended the Wearable Art Gala with her famous parents, but also decided that the time had come to put her art-collection prowess on display when she, very unceremoniously as if it were the most natural thing in the world to do for any six year-old, proceeded to bid on an acrylic painting by actor Sidney Portier.
Blue Ivy wasn’t shy about putting her money where her bidding paddle was either, raising a starting bid to the tune of $17,000, before pushing the boundaries even further and increasing her bid to a very smooth $19,000. Her famous father jokingly tried to stop the youngster’s eager paddle mid-air but the youngster was intent on finishing what she had started by raising her bid.
An Art Connoisseur In the Making
Host Star Jones explained to the very amused crowd that Blue Ivy had been overhearing her mother and father discussing the importance of owning art, and that this was an important investment for any African-American. Blue Ivy had simply decided to heed the counsel of her two successful parents.
Blue was unfortunately not successful in obtaining the piece of art as she was pipped to the post by comedy star and director Tyler Perry, who eventually won the bid at a cool $20,000.
Blue Ivy fans took to social media shortly after, commending the young celebrity on her gutsy bidding attempts.
Iconic singer-songwriter Cher commented on the story, writing that those who felt themselves a bit too head in the clouds and needed to humble themselves merely had to consider that they would never have the juice that Blue Ivy does, and that that would bring them right back down to earth. The general consensus was that only those who have bulging bank accounts or have won big playing slots would be able to bid what this six year old did, so it’s really for the elite!
More Than A Pretty Face
The gutsy 6 year-old wasn’t ready to relinquish the fight just yet and swiftly proceeded to bid on yet another piece, this time on a 36” x 36” art piece consisting of deconstructed law and medical books, by artist Samuel Levi Jones. This time, it was the sweet taste of success as Blue won the $10,000 bid for the piece and got to take it home with her.
This isn’t the first time that Blue Ivy has managed to make headlines as a result of her adorable antics. Blue also attended the Grammys with her famous parents last month, where she very angrily appeared to berate both singers for clapping too enthusiastically. The camera cut to the family’s corner just in time to witness Blue Ivy signalling dramatically to her parents to stop clapping and applauding as she could not hear what Camila Cabello was saying during her acceptance speech.
Blue Ivy is obviously interested in more than just showing off her attire or her famous parents. Collecting fine art and being in the know about what’s happening in the world of music seems to be more up her ally, and at only six this is something of a remarkable feat for any child, let alone that of 2 Hollywood megastars!
